Did you know that Social Security imposter scams are the number one type of government imposter fraud reported to the Federal Trade Commission? March 4th is National “Slam the Scam” Day- a day that raises awareness about the dangers of government imposter scams. Last year the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) received over 718,000 reports of Social Security-related telephone scams—with a total of $44.8 million reported lost. Victims who lost money reported an average loss of $5,800.
