Celebrate a World of Flavors during National Nutrition Month
by Toivo Pasto, MS, RD, CLC
During the month of March, most people are getting ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th, but did you know that March is also National Nutrition Month®? During this year’s month-long celebration, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has chosen the theme of Celebrate a World of Flavors.
National Nutrition Month is a great time to begin to explore foods and meals that may be new to you. Most of the time when we go grocery shopping and prepare meals, we use ingredients that we are used to. That’s ok, we all feel comfortable using and doing what we know! During National Nutrition Month, try to add some new favorite meals that may include new ingredients, flavors, and ways of cooking. By including different ingredients in foods, we are getting a variety of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that help keep us fueled up and moving!
TOI’s WIC program will be posting new recipes from around the world throughout the month on our Facebook page.
Check out the links below for different recipes. Go ahead, give them a try today!

Did you know that TOI’s WIC program has two Registered Dietitians that work with families to help improve health through good nutrition? We are here for questions and support that you and your family may need. If you are pregnant, nursing, or caring for children under the age of five, you may qualify to receive the benefits of WIC! The income requirements are surprising and many people qualify and don’t know it. Even working families can qualify to receive WIC benefits. Call 607-687-3147 or click here for more information
