Do you need help paying your rent or utilities due to a COVID-19 related financial loss?

Many of our neighbors, family, and friends been impacted by the pandemic in ways that were unexpected, including job loss or loss of income, childcare and school closings, social isolation, and ongoing health and safety concerns. Unforeseen events have left many in our community seeking resources to help them navigate through these difficult times.

If you or someone you know is facing financial difficulties due to COVID-19, Tioga Opportunities, Inc. may be able to help. Applications are still being accepted for rental and utility assistance to eligible recipients in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tioga Opportunities, Inc. is the recipient of funding through the NYS Department of State as a result of the 2020 CARES Act to provide rental and utility assistance to eligible recipients who have been impacted by a reduction or loss of income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recipients can receive up to $500 for each area based on the following eligibility criteria:

Household income must be at or below the 200% poverty level and need of assistance is a direct result from COVID (layoff or loss of employment, serious health issue, etc.)

Applicants must be a resident of Tioga or Broome County and must currently reside in the dwelling for which assistance is being requested. The residence must be the applicant’s primary residence.
Applicants already receiving a Section 8 Housing Voucher are not eligible for rental assistance but may still be eligible to apply for utility payment assistance. Applicants receiving TANF/SN benefits are automatically eligible for assistance and will need to provide qualifying documentation.
Applicants will be required to produce proof of income and need of assistance. Payments will be made directly to landlords and utility carriers and suppliers, including propane.
